Getting help starts with a phone call, not a form.

Call or text the office, or leave a name and a number below, and the intake coordinator calls you back within two business days. That call is where the real questions get asked; this website never asks why you are calling.

Right nowAbout 3 weeksfrom your first call to a first session. Evenings fill first; a daytime slot is usually a week sooner. Checked Monday 14 September.
What happens next

Four steps

1You call, or we call you

Call or text the office, or leave a name and a number. The intake coordinator calls back within two business days.

2A twenty-minute call

What you are looking for, insurance or the sliding fee, days that work. Nothing is written on a website.

3A first session

Fifty minutes with a counselor matched to what you asked for. The current wait is on this page.

4Then it is up to you

Weekly, every other week, or a group. Change counselors if it is not right; nobody minds.

The street door: a green painted door standing open onto a staircase, a small blank brass plate on the brick beside it, a doormat, a planter of herbs on the pavement.
The street door. A blank plate, on purpose: nothing on the street says where you are going.
The door

No name on the street, on purpose

The plate beside the door is blank and the window upstairs has no sign. People in a town of 18,000 know each other; where you are walking is your business. The intake coordinator gives directions on the call, and the door is unlocked during office hours.

What we offer

Counseling, in four shapes

Individual counseling

Adults and teens 13 and up · 50 minutes, weekly or every other week

Anxiety, depression, grief, life changes, stress at work or at home. Six counselors with different approaches; the intake call matches you to one, and you can change.

Teens 13–17 need a parent or guardian at the first session.

Couples and family counseling

Couples, parents and children, whole families · 50 or 80 minutes

For a relationship under strain, a household that has stopped talking, or a change everyone is going through differently. Two counselors work with couples; three with families.

Family sessions are billed once, not per person.

Groups

Adults, teens 13–17, parents · 90 minutes a week, for the length of the group

Parenting, grief, teen anxiety skills, DBT skills, and a Spanish-language parenting group. A group is often sooner than an individual slot, and for some things it works better.

Groups are $20 a session on the sliding scale, or covered by the fee fund.

Short-term support

Anyone in Larkspur County · Up to six sessions

Six sessions, no diagnosis, for a hard month: a job lost, a diagnosis in the family, a move. Funded by the county contract, so there is no fee.

If more is needed after six, the counselor says so and the sliding scale applies.

Fees and insurance

The sliding scale

Household income under $30,000Or the fee fund, if $30 is too much this month. Just say so on the call.$30
$30,000 to $55,000$60
$55,000 to $85,000$95
Over $85,000, or insuranceFour insurance plans and Medicaid are accepted; the intake call checks yours.$140

The fee is set on the intake call from household size and income, on your word; nobody asks for a pay stub. It can change any time your situation does. Four insurance plans and Medicaid are accepted, and the intake call checks yours before the first session.

If the lowest fee is too much

The fee fund

Say so on the call, or to your counselor at any point. The fee fund paid for $61,000 of sessions last year — about three in five sessions here are billed below what they cost. It is funded by gifts and the county contract, and it is on the Give page with the rest of the numbers.

Short-term support — up to six sessions for a hard month — has no fee at all, under the county contract.

Leave a name and a number

We call you back

This form asks for a name, a number and a good time to call — and nothing else, on purpose. Why you are calling is for the phone call, with a person, not for a website. Demonstration: it sends nothing and stores nothing.

Or

Call, text, or use the portal

The office: 555-0102 · Monday to Friday, 9 to 6 · text works too. The intake coordinator answers or calls back the same day.

The practice portal is the center's own scheduling system, run by an outside company under a signed agreement that covers health information. Requesting an appointment there is the one place online where it is safe to say more.

Why the split: a website form that asks "what brings you here" would carry health information without the protections that a practice system has. So the site asks for a number, and a person calls.
